WIKI EDIT-A-THON

Friday, May 31, 2019
10am – 4pm
Communications 139

Join the Feminist Media Histories Initiative at UC Santa Cruz for a campus-wide Edit-a-Thon, focused on expanding Wikipedia’s coverage of women, nonbinary folks and LGBTQ communities in media history.

Is there a vintage girls’ game that ought to have a Wikipedia entry?  A feminist radio pioneer? A tech leader? A filmmaker? A TV show runner? A landmark event, exhibition, or artwork?  Now’s your chance to help build a more inclusive Wikipedia. We especially welcome entries on media makers, media consumers and media theorists from underrepresented communities and diverse global contexts.

Dorothy Santos (see bio below) will lead an info session on Wikipedia’s Visual Editor to start us off at 10am and will be available all day for one-on-one consultations.

Drop in any time — just bring a laptop, ideas and research materials. All are welcome — faculty, grad students and undergrads, experienced Wikipedians and novices. Anyone with an interest in histories of media worldwide.

Food and drink will be provided to keep Wikipedians energized throughout the day.
